Kualoa Regional Park is a large grassy park with a beach on Kane'ohe Bay on the east side of the island of Oahu.
The bay itself features the small but dramatic cone-shaped island of Mokoli'i not far off the shore.
It is beautifully located across the road from the Pali-ku (cliffs) of the impressive Ko'olau Range.
The beach and park were alive with wildlife including herons and the ubiquitous wild Hawaiian chickens and roosters.

A naturalist explained to us that a storm had hit Hawaii in the past that broke up all the chicken coops on the islands and released the birds.
He explained that as they evolved, their meat became tough and uneatable... and that is why they are so ubiquitous and roam freely.
I even saw an article online that was headed "Maui mauor wants Humane Society to combaty feral chicken problem."
